View Full Version : Online Notification Tool
"My Notification"
An online notification tool that would save the project notifications for the user. So when the user logs in a small pop up box would notify them if they have any notification. If they don't, then there is no need for a pop-up. The user would be able to remove a notification if they want. From the notification area, a user must be able to go directly to the project to view the detail of the project.

Is this not similar to a Watchlist area? I notice you use the word 'notifications'. Exactly what type of notifications should be considered? as well, could this be considered 'auction alerts' where ILance already sends the proper email notifications to the customers? I mention 'watchlist similarities' since you state 'From the notification area, a user can go directly to the project page'.. thats fairly similar.

Notifications - same as auction alerts, but would also store online for convinience. What if a provider logs in and did not check his/her email? This would notify them that they have project notifications that matches their experties.
The "Watch List" that you mention is something that is manually done by the provider.

Interesting. You bring up a great resource to allow 'alerts/notifications' area that would simply notify users of new talent, specific auction categories (with new auctions available (product or service), etc.
What I think, if you could be more specific, we could start working on a 'beta' module that would allow these notifications/alerts to be shown upon login and/or popup mode if users have already logged in, and a new alert is present.
This feature seems like it would be highly valuable to the next release of ILance, however, if you would be willing to share the types of notifications and alerts, when and where they would be 'triggered' this would help us help you. :)
Looking forward to your comments, (and others who might want to see this feature implemented) ;)

I would suggest a small popup box like the one in the admin area when you click on the help icon at the top right. [follow me]. So the alert would slide up from the bottom of the page.
Popup Properties:
Buyer | Project Name | View Project | Add to Watch
This box would probably stay alive for a few seconds. If you guys can pull this off this would be a great addon to Ilance.
OTHER SUGGESTIONS
Have you ever notice that a provider always use the same response to respond to different projects? What if they can pre-create their response and use it to bid on projects. So when they click on "Bid on Project" they can use a pre-created response if they like (which they probably would). When they select the pre-created response from a drop down menu the page would refresh and add the response to the box where they would normally type their service details so they can make minor changes where necessary.
LANCEALERT MAJOR IMPROVEMENTS
LanceAlert would be altered into a more powerful communication suite.
The Provider Front End
LanceAlert would be downloadable as usual and include a live communication suite like Messenger with filtering capabilities to filter words such as contact me etc...
Modification would include:
LanceAlert would serve as a live communication tool/project alert tool
- Providers would be able to set a per minute charge to talk live (say 15 cents) in their admin panel
- Admin would be able to set a commision charge for the marketplace
- Next to each provider name their would be an icon (online or offline) that would display the provider status (they have to be logged in offcourse)
- a buyer would be able to click on this icon to contact the provider
- a box would popup that ask the buyer for his/her credit card info
- the buyer would click next to verify that the credit card is ok
- then LanceAlert would send a message to the service provider (their connected version of LanceAlert)
- it would popup and notify the provider that a buyer wants to initiate contact
- they can accept or decline the invitation
- if they accept, then a timer would start to count the number of minutes to charge for. (their would have to be a default price to contact a service provider and each additional minutes would add on the $ equivalent ot the default price. i.e: default price ($5) + minutes (10 min @ 25 cents per minute = $2.50) = $7.50 cents
- The marketplace would use Authorize.net to charge the Buyer the contact fee when the contact session ends
KEY
- A buyer can't change their price per minute charge when a session has been initiated.
- Buyer must not be able to close the window
- but can click on end session and continue to verify payment
OTHER LANCEALERT RECOMMENDATION
I have notice that on my site their are a few people who selected numerous categories. I think to myself that it is quite odd for some to be that talented (some people may). Ilance should have a free category restriction. 5 free categories would be reasonable. Any additional category they would have to pay for (per month, per quarter, annually).
When LanceAlert connects to the marketplace, it would retrieve the user categories; not all categories, nor should the user add any additional categories as the current LanceAlert allow.
That's my recommendations. Hoping to see some response this these.

I much rather see ILance v3's style of experts results listings personally. Check this screenshot out .. (notice the checkbox to the far right? many actions can be performed via result listings ) :)

What happend with this notification feature? I think that there should be some notification overview - quick glance - sort of PM overview in this forum at login page .-)
