Hey all!
Just wanted to plug my wife's new Cookbook (E-Book) called
"I'm Broke - But I Need to Eat!"
It a compilation of 101 Main Dish recipes that can each be made for less than $1 per person.
We have been using it while she was putting it together and it is amazing what it can do to your food budget.
There is stuff in there for just about everyone (Even the yucky healthy type stuff :) )
She is selling it as a special for $4.95 with instant download. Regular price is $9.95
If at all curious, you can check out the "One Page" for it at:
http://www.emmaruth.com/
Thanks!
Mike

Excellent! What I'm about to say has nothing to do with what's inside the cookbook:
This is the difference between those that eat, and those that go hungry: Execution.
I thought it would be a nice idea to do this too, but I didn't have time to execute... I planned too much...
It is a condition: Analysis Paralysis.
When you look TOO deep, the opportunity passes you by. I will like to pass on what I had planned to date, hoping it helps you sunbum:
1. Create an account with ClickBank (clickbank.com), or similar.
2. Create several clickbank account (IDs), about 3 - 4.
3. "Light" the keyword fire & promote the e-book on each ID.
3a. Titles might be: "Eating on $30/month." or
3b. "Eating secrets for millionaires", or
3c. "Party Budget = $400. Eating Budget = $1. Money to Spare."
4. Blog about the cookbook. Using pricey keywords, like weight, loss.
4a. Remembering not to say weight loss together necessarily, but something like: "You're weight is not a factor in how much you eat at any one time" Then next sentence could be: "Throwing away good food is a loss to you."
5. On clickbank, offer (at least) 51% commission.
5a. Most people frown at this one, BUT my argument is:
What's easier to get: Selling one thing for $80,000, or selling one thing for $1 to 80,000 people.
Work smarter, not harder...
I really hope this works out for you!

Wow kalgary1 !!
I can't express enough, just how thoughtfull that was of you!
Marketing is sure not one of my few talents for sure ;)
It's real touching to me that you would even care, let alone take your
time to give such great advise.
I will study the things you wrote and really give it the college try.
We thought it might really help a lot of regular folks like us during these trying times.
Personally, I don't believe you ever have enough money to just waste it. Guess that comes from a period when I was a kid and I guess we were poor (You don't really know it at the time) and my parents were kids of the Depression.
Later in life my parents ended up making a good upper middle class living but not much changed in the way we were taught to be careful with money.
My wife and I have been blessed with a good living but we still work long and hard hours and "try" to pass on the lessons we were taught.
Enough rambling ;) Thank you SO very much for your help and thoughts!

Thanks Mike! Looks awesome! I'll definately be placing my order :)
Good idea and could be promoted well as described.
However in these trying times, would it not be prudent to offer a sample menu, viewing?
Just a thought.

Just wanted to write that I have bought my copy!
In the spirit of full disclosure, I am not really a cook, but my wife might like it and, frankly, it is the very least I can do to reciprocate for all the assistance that SunBum's posts have provided. :)
Regards,
Jonathan.
Hi Mike,
I was looking at the site and was going to give you some tips on how to increase conversions.
(been reading a couple books on usability and conversions and think I´ve learned a few tricks)
Anyways, instead of bombarding you with information, I decided to put together a new webpage for your book. I hope you like it!

I sent you the .zip file via email as well.

99% of the work appears to be complete:
1. It's aesthetically pleasing (copy flow, positioning)
2. Lot of Orange; helps release endorphins (the natural pain releaver)
3. Did I mention orange?:D It also induces an appetite too!
4. It's formatted very well for email marketing, AS IS.
What's left (I would suggest):
1. Create 4 - 5 iterations (with completely different copywriting on each)
2. Integrate multi-variate test with Google:
https://www.google.com/analytics/siteopt/splash?hl=en
3. Pick top 2: then sell, sell, sell.
4. Make a video or 2, or 20... and show us your checks!:p
ok, you don't have to do #4.
Before we start with A/B tests we need to get some traffic in.
The results of such tests are worthless unless we have at least a thousand uniques a month!
OK lets help Mike get some traffic :)
Start with Kalgary´s post #2...thats an awesome trick!
Now we need to focus on a mixed SEO + SEM strategy.
Since we are dealing with a static site SEO is really down to linkbuilding and increasing PR for interesting searches.
But before we start with that.... do we have some budget we can spend on SEM? (Adwords)

Hey Mike,
today, you would have made a very hundred bucks, at least:
http://h.imagehost.org/0781/7-20-2009_7-37-28_PM.png
changing a few keywords in your metadata to something like "Americas most inexpensive, favorite recipes"; and adding keywords like: america's, most, wanted, recipes, cheap, inexpensive, budget...
If you REALLY wanted to do some white-hat strategic stuff, then yesterday you could have added a "bonus" recipe called "apollo 11 moon pies" or "apollo eclipse snacks"...
If I didn't see it with my own eyes, I wouldn't believe it worked either...
